Crock Pot Split Pea Soup and Ham

There is something so wonderful about tossing ingredients in slow cooker, and coming home to a house that smells divine and dinner is just about served. This is a wonderful use for left over ham over the Holidays. This recipe has been a hit in our house and with our friends. I double this and freeze half. Profiter!

Serves 6

1 (16 ounce) package dried split peas, rinsed
2 cups ham, diced or 1 ham bone (meaty)
1 cup carrot, diced
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 cup celery, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 bay leaf
2 teaspoons parsley flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram, crushed
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 1/2 quarts hot water

Layer ingredients in slow cooker in the order listed.
Pour in water. Do not stir
Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours or until peas are very soft and ham falls off bone.
Remove bones and bay leaf.
